THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME

….. that will change your life and the way you read the Bible.  Nothing compares to standing in the places where Jesus and other Biblical characters walked.

More than a trip that can be summarised in images or words, this is a journey that is unique and quite often becomes an individual experience.

From Mt Carmel where Elijah called down fire from heaven to standing where Paul stood before Agrippa.  Feeling the wind blow on your face as you take a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee, and you remember this is where Jesus bid the wind to be still.   You look around, hearing the lap of the water on the side of the boat, knowing the mountain ranges and views that you see, have not changed since Peter stepped out of a boat to walk on this very same water.  Sometimes even the silence of that moment can bring you to tears.

Yet, listen and worship together as a messianic Jew (the captain of our boat), tells you how Jesus has changed his life and he now sings his praise to his Yahweh on this water.  A powerful reminder of how God loves the Jewish people and is still working today.

Luke 13:34
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

Take the opportunity to experience baptism in the river Jordan.

Walk into the small Galileean town of Capernaum, where little has changed. See the harbour walls,  knowing this is where Jesus spent much of his ministry and called many of his first fishermen disciples.   Scripture will come to life here as you see layout of the town read in full context scripture stories from this little town.

Today, it’s a large city, yet, in it’s modern surrounding shadow, walk among the little town of ancient Nazareth as it is uncovered.  This, the place of Jesus’ childhood.  The place that gave him the name, The Nazarene.

Into Jerusalem, we see the pool of Bethesda, and walk the old city streets and tunnels from around Herod’s palace.  Looking over to the mount of Olives, the geography of the Garden of Gethsemane and the road travelled (Kidron Valley) from Gethsemane on the night of His arrest to where Jesus was  questionned and then imprisoned in the  high priest Caiaphas’ prison cell.   See the very steps the soldiers and Jesus climbed, then stand in the courtyard where Peter denied he knew Him at all.

Nothing can prepare you for the emotion and reality of what Jesus went through in those moments, as you enter the place where He was held on the night before his crucifixion.  Many will remember these moments and places forever.

Sit in quiet contemplation, take time alone or in the group, as we then break bread and worship the risen Saviour.   Walk into the empty garden tomb.

Matthew 28:6
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

You will not cease to be moved as the pages, prophecies, psalms and stories burst into life and your spirit soars within you as you sense the power and presence of God in this special place.

Each place (and many more not mentioned here) is steeped, still, 2000 years later with the presence and the power of God.

It is little wonder, that many leave this place, and are never the same again.

THE ITINERARY (IN general)

You will spend 5 days in Tiberias, waking up in your hotel room looking out over
the  beautiful sea of Galilee.  After a few days exploring the Galilee region and beyond, we will move to our next hotel in the city of Jerusalem, just as Jesus also did in that passion week, and we begin to explore the magnificence of this ancient and beautiful city which is steeped in cultural and religious contrasts along with Biblical and ancient history.

Included in your trip is the world famous City of David light show.  Take your seat with thousands and watch as these ancient walls come to life in a very modern way, as the history of Jerusalem comes alive, before your eyes.

You will experience wonder, joy, excitement, and given the nature of this trip, pastor Simon has made time for moments of reflection, worship and ministry opportunities if it arises.  Jesus walked and spoke to many as he walked on this land 2000 years ago.  By the power of the Holy Spirit, He still speaks today.

If you haven’t understood this by now, let me say it:  This isn’t a holiday.  This is the opportunity to enter into 10 days of a life changing spiritual experience that will create memories that will live with you for the rest of your life.

We would love to have you join with us – whether you are a regular at Open Arms Church or not.  Our welcome and invitation for you to join us is a warm one.
